    Fire at Carter Lake's Lakeside Auto Recyclers spreads fast due to high winds



    Carter Lake, Ia -- At around 4pm Monday a call came into Pottawattamie dispatch Carter Lakes Lakeside Auto Recycler's had a large fire.

    As Metro news Now approached Carter Lake we could see smoke from miles away.

    Carter Lake Fire Department arrived on scene and within moments declared the fire was spreading rapidly.

    Multiple fire departments were called in to gain control of the fire. Omaha Fire, Crescent Fire, both assisted the Carter Lake volunteer Fire Department in reigning in the dangerous fast spreading fire.

    Near the south side of Carter Lake's Lakeside Auto Recycler's heavy machinery was brought in to remove fencing to open up an area firefighters could get to so they could have better position to fight the fire and move burning  vehicles out of the way.

    Firefighters fought the blaze for hours before it was extinguished.

    In an exclusive Metro News Now video we can see just how intense this blaze was.

    Metro News Now was told investigators will examine the area Tuesday to determine the cause of what started the fire.

    The first 3 minutes of the 911 call -

    According to the dispatch call, Lakeside made the initial call to 911.. Pottawattamie County Dispatch relayed there was a car fire in the shredder. There was also a call in by another business located next to Lakeside saying they had a car on fire.
