Omaha, Ne -- An Omaha Police Officer was shot today at JCPenny's in the Westroads Mall at about 4 pm.
The incident started when Omaha Police were called for a shoplifter.
According to Sherie Thomas of the Omaha Police Department, the suspect who shot the OPD Officer is in custody after a high speed chase. The pursuit started at 5:23pm at the Gretna interchange at mile marker 433.
At 5:42 pm the suspect was taken into custody without any incident.
According to Thomas of the Omaha Police department the officer is alert and will need surgery. In an earlier interview with Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer he stated the Officer was in critical condition.
Omaha Police say there was also a gun located at the scene where the suspect was taken into custody.
Sherie Thomas from OPD also stated there were no additional suspects they were looking for. OPD stated that there was also Mall video evidence of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving. That information lead to the suspects apprehension later on when the Nebraska State Patrol located the vehicle.
