Omaha man who barricaded himself in excavator shot, wanted by US Marshalls for sexual assault

Council Bluffs, Ia -- Around 11:30 am an Omaha man wanted by the U.S. Marshalls and Sarpy County barricaded himself into an excavator at a job site. The job site was located at Kanesville Blvd across from the new YMCA.

Once law enforcement arrived a call could be heard through dispatch of an officer stating they have a situation.

The suspect barricaded himself into an excavator and wouldn't come out. The suspect also had a gun.

Council Bluffs Police then closed East Kanesville Blvd for public safety.

After a stand-off that went from 11:30 am to around 7:05 pm, Council Bluffs Police shot the suspect.

Metro News Now witnesses the suspect acting erratically throughout the day and into the evening. The suspect at one point can be seen opening the door to the excavator then closing it several times throughout the day and evening. The suspect also would yell at Police at times.

U.S. Marshalls wanted the suspect for a warrant on sexual assault of a child out of Sarpy County.

Metro News Now has video and images below from the scene all day as it unfolded.

This is a developing story and we will provide the full Council Bluffs Police report in whole once we receive it.
